Questions about being a crew member

Please reach us at info@airapparent.us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A crew of 2-4 people can usually set up and inflate a balloon in 20-30  minutes and deflate and pack up in about the same time. More doesn't always mean faster or better; too many crew can slow or complicate tasks.

Simple. Just ask! Most pilots are more than willing to take on new crew members. Just ask any pilot or crew member how to get started and you're on your way. You can click on the form below and contact us about becoming a crew member.

Most crew volunteer for the friends, experiences, and memories ballooning offers. Many pilots try to fly crew after a few flights as a thank-you for their efforts, and some will ask crew to participate in local festivals or competitions as well. If interested in becoming a balloon pilot, starting out as a crew member is a great way to see what is involved, get exposure to balloon flying, and ask questions.

Morning and Night

Do you like watching the morning sunrise and evening sunset?  Do  you like drinking champagne at 9 am and as the sun is setting?  Do you  like being appreciated for your work and efforts?  Then this is the  opportunity for you.

Teamwork

We are always looking for help launching and recovering our hot air balloon.  Launch periods are on days when the winds are slow, at  sunrise and a few hours prior to sunset, primarily on the weekends, but  occasionally during the week.  The work isn't generally hard, but we  need multiple people to help with coordinated inflating, launching,  deflating and recovering the balloon and basket.  It may include lifting  up to 50-100 lbs onto a cart.

Camaraderie

Typically, the crew meets 30-45 minutes before launch time, drives to the selected launch site, launches the balloon, chases the balloon for approximately 1 hour, then recovers the equipment.  The process takes 3-4 hours.  The end of the flight is celebrated with a champagne toast.   This is an opportunity to check out a hot air balloon and be  part of a unique activity.

Appreciated

Being a Chase Crew Team Member is not a paid  position.  If you like crewing and are a regular, your assistance and efforts of crewing 6 times will be rewarded with a balloon ride – a $350 value.

If you are interested, please contact us below.

Celebrate

Crew Members under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or have their permission to participate.  Crew Members under 21 will be restricted to sparkling cider for post-flight ceremonies.
